A year with Bryan

I almost don't believe it. Bryan and I have been married for a year. What a year! There have been ups and there have been downs. I would like to take a moment and share a few of the reasons why I love my husband. Bryan loves to laugh and is always trying to find ways to get people to laugh. I call him "funny guy" a lot. Where ever we go people are happy to have us around because he is so personable. Sometimes this even scores us free stuff. After my six week follow up appointment at the OBGYN everyone there, the nurse, the doctor and the girl at the front desk all told us how much they would miss us.

I haven't blogged since March so my grandma says it's time for me to start over. So, I'm starting over, first with this post and then I'm going to try and recap all the highlights from the last year. I'm not sure in what order or how I'll post them, but I'm going to use December to recap my year with Bryan.

Valentine's with Bryan
![]() |
| Jasmine Plant |
Recently Bryan's Grandmother passed away. She was an amazing women who brought joy to the family and friends around her. Her funeral was the day after Valentine's day. There was a beautiful service and it was fun for me to meet some of Bryan's cousins. After the dedication of the grave we went back to the church for a lunch with the whole extended family. In the gymnasium at the church there were several tables set up. On each of the tables was one of these beautiful Jasmine plants, they smelled delectable. They were all in the shape of a heart. I was trying to figure out what kind of plant they were and admiring them in general so Bryan asked his Aunt what they were. She then offered us one, if we would like. Bryan said, "Great, it can be Missy's Valentine's day present." Such a sweetheart!
So now I have this beautiful plant with a heavenly aroma in my room. The greatest thing about it is every time we look at it we can think of Bryan's amazing Grandmother and the life she lived. We may even get to be reminded about our first Valentine's as a married couple.

Tonight was rib night, can I say yummy?
Bryan loves veggies which also makes me happy because so do I. He even loves those strange veggies that most people won't eat like spinich, asparagus and artichokes. Oh so good! So every meal has some kind of veggie. Tonight we had asparagus, corn, peas and potatos. Garlic is a must at every possible opportunity, so to prepare the asparagus Bryan splashed the spears in olive oil and then covered them in minced garlic. The smell was heavenly as the garlic roasted.
Bryan slaved away over the grill making sure the meat was just perfect. He likes it so it melts right off the bone and he has a special way of cooking it to make sure it does so. The DeMartini's have a special recipe for barbaque sauce (I think it's so secret they may never share it with me and I'm family). He slathers the sause on in just the perfect amount before he high heat grills each side of the meat. A little bit of burnt around the edges is a must.

Then like any proper chef he makes sure the meal looks beautiful. As you saw in the picture above and I'm sure your mouth is watering now. Ribs to one side of the plate, potato placed artisticly with the asparagus spears just so. Oh fantastic! I love dinners with my hubby.

How married life with Bryan began...
My married life with Bryan began Nov. 29, 2010. I came home from work and Bryan was hanging out because it was his day off. I'm not even sure how it all started but one of us said something about getting married in Vegas today and the other remarked, "No you wouldn't really?" One thing led to another and the next thing we knew we were on the road to Vegas. (I must interject that this was not the first time we had talked about getting married, so it was spur of the moment but not 100% out of the blue.)
Once we were on the road to Vegas there was no turning back. We were a little concerned about what the parents might say or do, but we kept heading south. When we got to Las Vegas we found the Little White Wedding Chapel where the getting married in Vegas process was explained to us.
The Clark County Courthouse is open until midnight (lots crazies like us I suppose) for marriage licenses. We went to the courthouse where we purchased our marriage license. Walking out of the courthouse is like walking out of the airport in a foreign country, you are swarmed by people wanting you to go to their "chapel" to get married. I was so bugged! They were like fleas trying to jump on a dogs back, everyone had a lower price than the next guy.
When we got back to the Little White Wedding Chapel they were ready for us. I had a pretty pink flower and we went into the chapel where we were married by a reverend. Both Bryan and I teared up, we were so happy. After the wedding we jumped back in the car and headed north, I had work and school the next day.
